5th Graders Tips for writing stories

Writing a story is one of the best ways for a 5th graders to get on RJTV. First, come up with a story idea that you think would be good for an upcoming episode. Next, discuss your idea with Mr. Fluharty. Finally, write and revise your story on Google Docs. Remember to share it with Mr. Fluharty. Below are a few guidelines to follow when writing your RJTV story.

1) Make sure your story has a strong lead. You want to hook our viewers from the start.

2) RJTV stories need to be written for our target audience: Jefferson School students, teachers, and parents.

3) All stories should be between 50 words and 150 words. That's short, so revise, and craft every sentence so your story includes all the most important information and holds the attention of our viewers.

4) Make your story interesting, exciting, and / or creative.

5) Include a concluding sentence.

6) Read your story out loud to see how it sounds. It should move along at a good pace and flow nicely.

7) Share your story with a classmate to get some feedback.

Teachers: Tips for getting your class or project highlight on RJTV

RJTV would like to feature stories about some of the great work and projects that are taking place in every class at Jefferson School. A story could be about a special unit, event, field trip, or just a summary of what's going on in your class. If you want your class to be on RJTV please email Mr. Fluharty the following:

1) An outline or summary of your story idea. Stories on RJTV are usually between 50 words and 150 words, or 30 seconds to 90 seconds long when read.

2) Six or more pictures and / or several short video clips of your event. Video should be shot wide or horizontal so it will fill the screen.

If you would like help filming, let us know. Also, as always, if you have an interesting idea for us to do a story about, please let us know.

Thanks!
